Khilood

Posted by bronwyn.

Khilood is my dentist. A few weeks ago, I went to The Dental Care Centre in Lower Hutt because they advertised in the yellow pages for $35 initial consultation and xray which is pretty darn cheap. I thought I would go there and check it out and if I liked the dentist - I would get them to take my wisdom tooth out which was extremely sore.

Aunty Marilyn graciously wheeled Eden around the Queensgate Mall while I visited. Unfortunately, my initial visit was a Tuesday and I had a music practice that evening for Eden's dedication service - so I delayed the extraction and got put on a week's worth of antibiotics for the abscess.

Meanwhile, Eden got sick, then I got sick, Duncan was away for a week, so I finally showed up for the extraction yesterday!

I freaked out a bit when the injection came - I thought I was relaxed but apparently not and I found it difficult to stop crying. Oops. While the dentist was out of the room, the nurse was trying to reassure me and told me with dramatic gestures (which in my state was not actually helpful) how good Khilood is, that she was an oral surgeon in Iraq but in NZ she is only allowed to be a dentist etc.

Well, she is real good. Honestly, in a matter of seconds, the tooth was out. "That will be two hundred and fifty dollars thankyou" she says. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes!

I was a bit exhausted afterwards but I think that had more to do with the crying thing. It is now the next morning and it is not sore at all. I took paracetamol before I went to sleep last night - just in case - but I don't think I actually needed it. Compared to the initial tooth ache when I could only open my mouth one inch....

family mealtimes

Posted by bronwyn.

We have had our first family mealtimes this weekend. Normally Eden has to be fed special stuff so we cannot all eat together but this weekend we thought we might be ready for something a bit new - and he was up for it!

Hamburgers on Saturday night, Eden had a selection of bits and bobs cut up on his tray and he nibbled away at them while we had our burgers. Sunday night was a roast, so again some cut up veges while we chomped away. Great!

Only problem is, we have to curb our habits of sometimes watching a DVD while we eat. Eden just stares at the box instead of eating (unsurprisingly enough considering his parent's visioaddictaveness...) so it has to go off. We even sat around the table last night instead of on the couch - oooooh.

Wet and cold and wet and windy and cold here. brrrrr. but at least we are all well again after the last couple of weeks!

ma ma da da

Posted by bronwyn.

Eden is still on average a 5:30am baby. It doesn't seem to matter whether he has had big sleeps or small sleeps during the day....!

I don't know why I keep just not blogging when there have been important and fun things to write about.

Around the time of going to Sydney, Eden started doin the 'ma ma ma' sound which was endearing. A couple/three of weeks later he began the 'da da dad' sounds - sometimes very high pitched so Duncan was very excited about that. I don't even seem to hear the 'ma ma ma' stuff anymore - oh well - it'll come back some time!

I am please also to report that Eden can now turn book pages. After watching us do it a gazillion times, + lots of pausing for him to play with them every now and then, he is now a complete pro - a least with 'board books' anyway. Of course the weekend after this milestone was reached (Queens birthday) and all my family were here - it tooks a few goes before he did it on command!!

I better go, it is now 6:20am and the wee boy has had enough of the playpen etc. He's teething too so no doubt a further report in that area will be forthcoming!
